Support for people on the Central Coast with premature birth, premature babies, and sick babyHaving a premmie or sick baby is something that none of us expect to face. Varying reasons have led us here but we share a common bond and understanding. If you are interested in meeting people who share similar experiences please come along to our monthly, parent to parent support group, where you will form friendships, be informed by guest speakers and relax with other people that truly understand you.Who We Are The Central Coast Premmie & Sick Newborn Support Group was the vision of Fiona Dixon after her own daughter Airlie Fae was born at 27 weeks gestation in January 2006 due to Pre Eclampsia and HELLP Syndrome. With a federal grant provided by the Benevolent Society and Strengthening Neighborhoods the group was able to go ahead. Now with the help of other Central Coast parents the group meets to provide parent to parent support. We arrange for Guest Speakers to provide parents with access to information tailored to premature and sick newborns. The Central Coast Premmie & Sick Newborn Support Group is a member of the National Premmie Foundation.

There are two main foci to the Week. One is a celebration of those babies who have been born early; the other is to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms that may lead to premature birth. Austprem Inc. has developed a new brochure “Pregnant? It’s probably nothing but it might be something.” The brochure contains a summary of the indications that may lead to premature birth and encourages women to check with their doctor, hospital or health care provider if they are at all concerned. This Campaign is of relevance to EVERY pregnant woman and we hope that you will support this worthwhile initiative. Brochures and more information are available at the website www.bornearly.org.au, or contact info@bornearly.org.au. During National Premature Birth Awareness Week, Austprem Inc. will be delivering cooler bags (for future transport of expressed breast milk) filled with various information, offers and discounts relevant to families with prems to each baby in a NICU and SCN at a Level III Hospital. In support of National Premature Birth Awareness Week, we encourage you and your members to hold events, such as a morning tea or afternoon at a playground etc. in your local area. The BORN EARLY website http://www.bornearly.org.au, in particular http://www.bornearly.org.au/npbaw, details some more event ideas that you could organise for your school or workplace, with your mothers’ group, the “kinder parents”, or with friends and family. Posters are available for you to print out and display to promote the Week, or to encourage people to attend your event. Banners are also available to download to promote the week. There will be a range of merchandise available for purchase through the Website shortly. Austprem Inc. has also created a BORN EARLY Blankie. You can purchase an online Blankie square for your child for just $20 and others can then make donations in your child’s name. Everyone is welcome to purchase a square and all money donated goes towards the BORN EARLY Campaign. Donations of $2 or more are tax deductible. We hope that you will support National Premature Birth Awareness Week, by advertising the Born Early campaign widely on your website/forum and help solve the puzzle of premature birth. 11:08 PM - Sunday 18 November 2007 - comments {0} - post comment |
